The office building for the Bundestag (the lower house of the German parliament) in the Wilhelmstrasse in Berlin is designed as a unique double facade.
The inner facade delivers the thermal separation between inside and outside and is executed using insulating glass. The outer glazing also serves to insulate against noise while simultaneously producing an increase in heat insulation. The space between the facades can be accessed and walked on for cleaning. The entire glazed outer shell is in a scale-like arrangement, giving the building its impressive and unmistakable outer appearance.
